Jenny Hale Q & A

We’re putting founder Jenny Hale in the hot seat today. She’s sharing some fun facts about her newest novel The Golden Hour! Let’s get right into it!

1. We love being whisked away to romantic destinations. Tell us about the setting of your novel.

My novel is set in Rosemary Beach, Florida. It’s a tiny village, nestled along the turquoise water and pearl-white sand of the Gulf Coast. When the sun dips below the horizon, the sky erupts in hues of pink and orange, and while vacationing there, my idea for The Golden Hour was born. With its charming cobblestone streets, European-style architecture, quaint cafés, and stunning views of the emerald waters, it’s the perfect backdrop for a love story.

2. Choose one of your characters and have them give us one piece of relationship advice.

My relationship advice comes from Josie’s autistic teenager brother Nick: “If you like the guy, answer the call.”

3. What other authors in your genre do you love to read?

I’m currently reading Renée Rosen (so great!) but I also love to read RaeAnne Thayne, Nancy Naigle, and Debbie Macomber, but I have tons of other authors on my shelves, and I adore peeking into the books of Harpeth Road authors!

4. Behind-the-scenes glimpses are always exciting. Tell us one thing you did while writing your upcoming novel.

Oh my goodness—what didn’t I do? Running Harpeth Road, I continued to build the publishing company, read submissions, wrote marketing plans, created production schedules, worked with foreign rights…

5. Choose one of the following that happened to you or in your novel and tell us all about it: a sweet surprise, a loving gesture, a thoughtful gift, date-night idea, romantic dinner.

For Valentine’s Day, my hubby bought me one night in a little log cabin out on a stunning farm about forty minutes from our house. There were rolling hills, a friendly horse, tire swings, and walking paths. He followed me out there, took me to dinner, got me settled in the cabin, and then took care of the house and the kids while I spent one glorious night writing.

6. Give us a three-song playlist that would be the soundtrack to your new book.

“Summertime” by Kenny Chesney, “Better Boat” by Kenny Chesney ft. Mindy Smith, and “Lucky” by Jason Mraz ft. Colbie Caillat

7. Tell us your favorite part of the publishing process and why.

My favorite part of the publishing process is getting to use all the sides of my creativity to package and market my novel. I adore the branding and marketing process.

8. What are you working on now?

I just finished the first draft of my next Christmas novel and will be editing that in the coming days. I’ve also begun writing my next summer novel and working on the story development for my Christmas novel after that.

Thanks so much, Jenny, for giving us a look inside your writing life! Jenny’s newest novel The Golden Hour is out now!
