Rachel Brimble Q & A

We’re delighted to speak with Rachel Brimble today! Author of 28 novels published by Harlequin, Aria Fiction, and Kensington Publishing, among others, Rachel is a romantic fiction dynamo, and she’s sharing some fun facts with us today! Let’s get right into it!

1. We love being whisked away to romantic destinations. Tell us about the setting of your novel.

Dressing the Countess takes place in Victorian London with most of the scenes set in the Georgian royal residence of Henlow House, the court of the fictional Earl and Countess of Bath. Amid winding corridors filled with antiques, rosewood furniture and sparkling chandeliers, the novel is a spectacle of drama, family relations & romance!

2. Choose one of your characters and have them give us one piece of relationship advice.

“Try to be with someone who supports your dreams, challenges you at every corner and, more than anything, makes you feel like the most beautiful woman in the world…”—Rose Watson

3. What other authors in your genre do you love to read?

My favorite historical romance authors are Julia London, Julia Quinn & Elizabeth Hoyt.

4. Behind-the-scenes glimpses are always exciting. Tell us one thing you did while writing your upcoming novel.

I had an amazing ‘research trip’ to London and spent hours at the beautiful Kensington Palace which became Henlow House in my imagination – Kensington is a wonderful place, made all the better by the Royal photography exhibition they had on display while I was there.

5. Choose one of the following that happened to you or in your novel and tell us all about it: a sweet surprise, a loving gesture, a thoughtful gift, date-night idea, romantic dinner.

One of the most romantic moments of my life was both a sweet surprise and a thoughtful gift – My family and I were rescued by helicopter from the 2010 French floods and during the chaos I lost my engagement ring. I was so upset. On Christmas Day of the same year, my husband completely and utterly surprised me by presenting me with a new diamond solitaire ring at lunch with all the family. There were tears…

6. Tell us your favorite part of the publishing process and why.

I love it all, but my favourite part is probably the line edits because I know the tough part is done! Developmental edits always take their toll as I want to get what the editor has suggested right and really take my responsibility in that to heart. The other favourite part (of course!) is seeing my cover for the first time – that never gets old!

7. What are you working on now?

I am editing the first book and writing the second in a brand new WWII series set in Bath, England.

Thanks so much, Rachel, for giving us a look inside your writing life! Rachel’s novel Dressing the Countess is on pre-order now! Keep an eye out for more on our socials!
